Introducing A Flexible Data Transport Protocol for Network Storage Applications

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that alternative solutions to current methods exist for network storage. We would like to introduce one such alternative, a new protocol that we call HyperSCSI. This protocol is used for the transmission of Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) family of protocols across a network and multitechnology device support. In this paper, we will outline some of the key features and basic technical details of HyperSCSI. We have also developed several fully functioning disk array prototypes using a variety of hardware and storage devices as well as conducted benchmarks and performance tests on this. A performance comparison between this new protocol and iSCSI and NFS is also included here.
